Our 28th Wedding Anniversary

Gabi and I married in Wuerzburg on July 22nd, 1977. This year, we started our anniversary celebration in Biberach on the 21st. After a nice buffet breakfast at the “Hotel Reith”, we spent the morning at the spa in “Jordanbad”. We alternated between outdoor massage pool, steam bath, water slides, hot thermal pool, ice-cold foot bath and bubble water-lounges. It was hard to leave Biberach.
I drove our “Smart for- four” to Wuerzburg and we had dinner outdoors at the restaurant “Alte Mainmuehle”. The sun came out just in time for dinner and we had a nice view of the “Main” river and the fortress “Festung Marienberg”.
Our anniversary started with a nice breakfast at the “Hotel Strauss” in Wuerzburg. Afterwards we bought German Christmas tree candles, a new pair of white clogs for work and a leather wallet for me (for 10 Euros). Gabi would not allow me to buy her any jewelry for the occasion! Next we had 2 separate wine tastings : the first one in the Juliusspital in Wuerzburg and the second at the vintner “Schmitt’s Kinder” in Randersacker.
The Juliusspital is a large baroque castle with a modern hospital, a restaurant, a wine shop, a Rokoko pharmacy and an adult home with a beautiful garden. Not a bad place to be when you grow old. It was founded by Prince Bishop Julius Echter in 1576 and is still producing and selling its own wine, coming from vineyards surrounding Wuerzburg. While I attended Medical School here, I had a clinical rotation in Internal Medicine at the Juliusspital in 1975. Sometimes a “wine rotation” followed after classes !
Finally we had our anniversary dinner at the ” Ehrbar’s Fraenkische Weinstube” in Frickenhausen. This was the place where I had proposed to Gabi in the winter of 1977.
Now it is 28 years later and we are still in love with one another.
