Beaver Creek Ski And Sleep
By Lothar. Filed in Colorado |On Monday, December 28, we wake up with sunny blue skies and a view of the slopes of Beaver Creek. I check in with my CME meeting at the Creekside Resort, and then Gabi, Carsten and I hit the slopes. It is packed powder and we ski Beaver Creek, Bachelor Gulch and Arrowhead. Lunch is at the “Broken Arrow” Restaurant. In the afternoon, our legs need a break and we take the “Leav the Beav” trail back to “The Landing”, where the shuttle bus picks us up. The hot tub feels good after a day on the “hill”!
The next days are a repeat performance, because it is so good!
We ski on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at Beaver Creek, Friday at Vail. On Wednesday, we get 13 inches of new snow. Thursday is a great powder day on the slopes. Gabi spoils us with dinners in the condo and we only go out to dinner twice this week. On the 30th, we celebrate New Year’s Eve one day early and drive through the snow to “The Gashouse” in Edwards. There are many animal heads on the restaurant walls, and now I can tell once again the difference between an elk and a moose. We just don’t see them that often in Upstate New York.
We have a great week skiing and relaxing, after a 4 months stretch of working without a break. The weather is sunny, but cold. The daytime temps are in the teens and I cover my body with 6 layers of clothing. One layer is a nice fleece vest, which we all received as a gift from Beaver Creek West Condo. We stay in a 2 bedroom condo (4M). It was recently renovated and everything is very nice. The gas fireplace is heating the living area and I don’t have any work with fire wood! Gabi finds her old guest book entries. We had stayed here with Carsten and Sonja in the same condo in 1999 and 2000! The skiing is still great in 2009/10, only a one day lift ticket now costs $97. We are usually in bed by 10 PM, even on New Years Eve. We do see Beaver Creek fireworks from our balcony at 8PM!
We are lucky and can keep our condo until 5PM on Friday, January 1st. Gabi and I ski Vail mountain on New Year’s Day, and cruise down the wide slopes of “Flap Jack” and many other trails. In the morning it is very empty on the mountain. In the afternoon, the clouds roll in and we call it a day. After the visit to the hot tub, we have to leave and drive over Vail Pass to Silverthorne. We arrive at “The Mint” before the evening rush and have a nice dinner, cooking our steaks on the big grill in the middle of the restaurant.
This ski trip went by too fast!!
