Singapore Memories in Barbados

Gabi and I are overdue for an island vacation. The trip to Germany, with 30 students, 2 months ago does not qualify as a vacation!
Finally April 2nd, Good Friday is here and we are at the Albany Airport at 5:40 AM. Today, we are in luck with US Airways and step off the plane in Barbados at 2:30 PM, as scheduled.
Barbados is not a very pretty island. We drive north on the Errol Barrow Highway and see some sugar cane fields, factories and hardware stores along the way. North of Bridgetown, we follow the coastal highway H1. This area is very developed, with stores and strip malls, but no palm trees. Our destination is Crystal Cove Resort, just south of Holetown. The hotel turns out to be very nice, in some ways exceeding our expectations!

The resort has two-story townhouses, grouped around a 3-level pool and the beach. We are lucky for a second time today, and move into a beachfront unit (#220). We explore our resort and are just in time for the 5 o’clock tea and snacks, served in the Cave Bar.
Later, we sit on our balcony and have the crashing waves right below us! The sun is disappearing in a hazy sunset, and we celebrate our return to the Caribbean with an excellent “Singapore Sling”. While nursing the drink, we remember our stay in Singapore last summer. Now we are in another former British colony, only on the other side of the globe!
